This month, Deutsche Post (DP), Deutsche Post DHL (DPDHL) began using EPC UHF RFID technology, to provide information about the goods arrival or department in Frankfurt sorting centers for its customers, especially overseas envelopes and parcel customers. This RFID tracking systems can help customers understand arrival time of destination package. When cargo is delivered to destinations of 16 countries, the DP would use RFID readers to read the data and update related information for the customer. Under the leading of International Post Corporation (IPC), a cooperation organization across 24 countries among Europe, North America and Asia, a number of other postal operators have begun to install the RFID monitoring system.
DP is Europe's largest e-mail service provider. The company has international mail, lightweight goods delivery business, revenue amounted to 1 billion Euros last year. All DP's international express business will go through the sorting center in Frankfurt.
For the postal industry, RFID is not new. Like other IPC members, DP installed UHF RFID reader at critical facilities, so that it ismore easy to monitor the quality of international mail business. In addition. DP also installed UHF reader in international mail terminal for process monitoring and improving the process of post delivery.
DP in Frankfurt international hub installed Lanyngsoe Systems integrated antenna LS4200 RFID reader, this reader is mainly used for reading the small pieces of tag ID number through this sorting system attached to.
DP overseas mail and direct mail product management VP Dirk Pandikow said from this year, we began to consider technology commercialization services. For the Lindernachweis that we have launched, each package has a two-dimensional code for tracking. By scanning the two-dimensional code, customers could know when their post is sent and received. However, for the whole details during the whole process of delivery, they have no ideas.
Envelope’ transnational tracking is much harder than the big boxes’. The small volume of envelope generally make it more difficult to scan two-dimensional code. Pandikow said that until now there is no an international standard for the two-dimensional code system. Thus, postal operators have to often use the manual method of receiving international mail, and sometimes re-stick labels in the destination country. DP said as the number of small pieces grow very fast,the automatic tracking system becomes increasingly important.
Using RFID identification system, shippers only need RFID tag attached that DP provides for automatic tracking through Frankfurt hub mail.
DP offers two different RFID tags: N044044B1U, built-in Impinj Monza 4E chip; AZ9662, built-Alien Technology Higgs 3 chip. The number of labels are to be selling 20/50 or 500, you can use the machine manually to paste RFID tag label.

RFID Reader and antenna for each destination country's post office are installed. These RFID tag labels couldl be re-read. Thus, the sender can view the latest state of the envelope.
